Tomorrow is day 3 the of “14 Days of Connecting With Your Spouse”. The weekend will be over, so things will be harder. But that’s part of what this is all about – fighting for your marriage instead of pushing it to the side.
We can come up with a million excuses for why we can’t make time for each other, for why we’re just too busy. But don’t use the excuses. If you use the excuses, tomorrow’s challenge will be hard. But if you make an excuse to get it done, if you make it more important than the other “stuff”, it will be easy.
Day 3 – Plan, Cook, and Eat Dinner Together
Take 5 minutes tonight or in the morning to plan together what you’re going to have for dinner. Husbands (assuming your wife does most of the planning and cooking) you need to contribute to each step – not just the eating!
Go through the refrigerator, freezer, or pantry together and figure out what you can cook together. You’re looking for a simple meal – not a 5 course spread. Next, make a list of anything you might need to pick up on your way home from work. Finally, determine what time you’re going to start cooking. Put it on your calendars and don’t miss it!
Then, tomorrow night, enjoy your time together. Smile, laugh, and enjoy each other. Finally, enjoy your meal together. So many couples and families don’t eat many meals together. Be thankful that you can share this one together.
For The Overachievers
Skip the fridge, freezer, and pantry – at least part of it. Look for a new recipe together, make a list of the ingredients you need from the store, and add going to the store together into the mix.
