When You’ve Worn Thin, Then What?

When you’ve worn thin, your world looks different. You don’t see things as clearly. You feel helpless, frustrated and sad. You look around and (though it’s not necessarily true) everyone else is happy. You’re not.

I noticed when talking with my close group of friends that all of us are struggling with something. One friend is questioning her relationship with her husband, another is on the brink of divorce, one is struggling so hard financially, and another is frightened and waiting on the results of a medical procedure. I also work one-on-one with a wife whose husband is fighting an addiction to porn. The attacks come in different areas of our lives.

1 Way to Create a Smooth Morning

Breakfast at our house needs to be two things: fast and healthy. I realize that donuts and toaster pastries are fast, but that’s not the kind of food I want to bank on getting me, Troy or our kids through until lunch.

I experiment with different combinations of smoothies just about daily. But no matter how many I find that are so good, I keep coming back to my old standby. I get asked about this smoothie recipe a lot. I call it the “Chocolate Dream” – and it’s loaded with the kind of food that will help jumpstart anyone’s day.

Low in fat and even lower in cholesterol, spinach is high in niacin and zinc, as well as protein, fiber, vitamins A, C, E and K, thiamin, vitamin B6, folate, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, potassium, copper, and manganese. Spinach is loaded with good things for just about every part of your body.

It protects your body from free radicals, particularly in the colon. It’s good for your healthy cardiovascular system, and helps lower high blood pressure. Studies also have shown that spinach helps maintain your vigorous brain function, memory and mental clarity.

Avocados are known for helping to fight cardiovascular disease, aid in weight management, diabetes, and have an ability to enhance your body’s absorption of nutrients. They’re also anti-inflammatory and can help protect against liver damage.

A Smooth Move
You can’t go wrong when you fuel your body with these foods and nutrients first thing in the morning. An added bonus is that a smoothie is a gentle wake-up for your digestive system, too.

You know your morning routine? It’s the same thing over and over, right? Switch it up. Try adding this into your routine. Little changes like this make a big difference in your body.  Be intentional about your choices and work toward being #bettertodaythanyesterday .

I spend time with my kids every day. I also clean my house every day. I actually don’t mind cleaning. On some days, I would go as far as to say that I actually enjoy it. “How can she do that?” you may ask.
